AZAHAR BENEFIT WORKSHOP
with International Celebrity YOGESWARI
Backbending gives us a great rush of energy, a feeling of lightness and a taste of an altered state of consciousness. However, overusing the lower back and restricting the breath can make it daunting for. In this workshop, we will look at how to take the backbends from the strength and grounding of our legs and feet, to open the psoas and the armpits and to find mobility in the thoracic spine, to avoid overusing the lower back.
On an esoteric level, backbends target the Heart Chakra (Anahata), that holds an unlimited pool of unconditional Love and Compassion. Compassion is needed to find the motivation to engage in Karma Yoga, the yoga of selfless service, off the mat. In turn, Karma Yoga will engender more compassion, as we extend ourselves to care for others.
It is the level of consciousness needed by humanity to raise itself above the course of violence and self-destruction
Part of this workshops will be taught as a dynamic Jivamukti style vinyasa sequence to a playlist made of world music, Sanskrit mantras and hip Indian beats. The other part will focus on alignment and prop use. We will also chant some verses from the Bhagavad Gita.
Proceeds will go to support AZAHAR Foundation in training and providing a livelihood for yoga teachers in Cambodia, Rwanda and other post-conflict and developing countries (www.azaharfoundation.org)
AZAHAR is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit founded by Yogeswari. All donations are tax-deductible by law.
Our vision until 2030 is, to establish a Peace Village in Switzerland, to facilitate cross-cultural exchange in form of conferences, retreats for yoga and spiritual practices from different traditions and artistic collaborations. This central village will pool participants from AZAHAR centers and partner organizations around the world and include professional training and a scholarship fund. It will act as a refugee for artists, spiritual leaders and peace activists who are lacking freedom of speech in their home countries. It will be environmentally friendly, largely self-sustaining, a sanctuary for animals and will house people from different generations.
